AUWTCH! That stabbing pain in your back!

Blocked your back by a wrong movement?

Stiffness when standing or pain after sitting for long periods of time?

Back pain is a common complaint that often involves multiple causes and factors.

As an osteopath, it is important for us to treat the cause!

What to Expect:

A first appointment with an osteopath will usually take around 45 minutes to an hour. Your osteopath will want to talk to you about your back pain and your health in general, as well as any other treatment you’re having. They’ll probably ask you to remove some clothing so that they can examine you. If so, you should be provided with a gown or a towel. If you wish, you can ask for a friend or relative to accompany you.

Finding the problem:

Your osteopath will look at your whole body in relation to your back pain – they may observe you making some simple movements and stretches. They’ll also feel around your joints, ligaments and tissues with their hands (this is called palpation).

Osteopathic Techniques:

Your osteopath will use manual techniques to try and reduce your back pain. Osteopathy techniques aim to increase the movement in your joints and relieve muscle tension. Hereby increasing the self-healing mechanisms of the body. What we do during treatment:

  • Spinal manipulation

  • Soft tissue massage techniques

  • Joint mobilisation- Gentle rhythmic joint movements

  • Stretching muscles and Muscle energy techniques (MET)

  • Visceral manipulation - gentle movement of abdominal areas have influence on the functioning of our organs
